It shouldn't matter if you have a POST

  <form>
    <input type="hidden" name="param" value="test">
  </form>

or a GET

  page.html?param=test

both should work since it is always

  request.getParameter("param")

And the "?param=test" is the query string.
Have a look at the request object...
