If Linux && hostpot-server && multiprocessor:

export _JAVA_SR_SIGNUM=12 

(copied from my /etc/ini.d/tomcat script)

before you start tomcat... If works like a charm for me curing those 
errors (Needed under any hotspot server I have tested.

Also, you can be hitting unexpected execution paths for the JIT, due to funny exceptions/errors.
