have solved my problem - I'd set the clock on my new SMP box to year 2000,
not 2001.  And then transferred my Tomcat dist back in time!

I have now swapped my SMP box for a stick and joined a monastery...thanks
for the help anyway - shame it was wasted on someone so obviously in the
wrong vocation!
