Since you need sitemap generation for changes, use that mechanism all the
time.

If 100 delays is a problem to a site admin, he can easily create a script;

wget http://myhost.mydomain.com/document1
wget http://myhost.mydomain.com/subsite1/document1
wget http://myhost.mydomain.com/subsite2/document1
    :
wget http://myhost.mydomain.com/subsiteN/document1

which will regenerate the whole bunch, prior to exposing the site to the
web.
100 sitemaps will take how long?? But 100 sitemaps website is a pretty
large site, and nothing is done without serious planning, dev/prod servers
and so on.

You have a similar delay for every document/resource prior to filling the
cache.

I suggest, don't worry about it.
