Actually, Sam Ruby checked in a fix for this very late last night (Thanks
for taking the time to fix this, Sam!), and it looks like it'll work for the
Tomcat 3.1 final release, after all.  I've attached the revised
installing.xml updated with the latest changes.  These instructions will not
work (unless you build Tomcat from a new source drop) until the final
release of Tomcat 3.1...which it sounds like is on track for a Monday
release.

Yes that should work. I think you should add this hint to the latest
version of the installing.xml you posted so that it can be commited to
cvs.
