Another option would be

<query><query-format>....</qf><query-cmd>select...</...>

And, especially if you later work with XSL on the stuff:

<query-format id="foo">
  <column id="price"><currency unit="USD">{.}</currency></column>
  <column id="delivery"><date fmt="yyyy-MM-dd">{.}</date></column>
  ...
</query-format>

With {.} being the column value (XSLT syntax).
