Ok so sounds like adding the SR ahead of time will do the trick to get past alert state. In
my case it does seem to recognize the memory and CPU on the hosts so will see what happens.
I'll let you know. Hopefully I'll get a chance this evening. 

One other question, which xapi ppa did you use, stable or unstable?
