Subject RE: Custom instance names ?
Date Thu, 24 Jan 2013 11:12:47 GMT
Hey Jake ,

I think this should be very much possible but would require some effort to modify the java
code here - incubator-cloudstack/core/src/com/cloud/vm/VirtualMachineName.java . This file
tries to use the StringBuilder class to generate the VM name ( instance or router VM etc)
and writing it to the db.

Thanks,
Pranav

Subject: Custom instance names ?

Hi All,

Wondering if it is possible to include the Account Name or User Name in the instance name
that is auto-created by cloudstack 4.0 (vCenter 5).

Example:
Current naming schema -> i-50-VM
Custom naming schema -> i-50-VM-companyA   or   i-50-VM-companyA-jimsmith

Seems like it should be possible with some variables added somewhere, but not sure.

Thank you for all your help!

Jake
