Subject [jira] [Created] (CLOUDSTACK-8764) Split the mac address code from IPv4 code.
Date Mon, 24 Aug 2015 12:17:45 GMT
Boris Schrijver created CLOUDSTACK-8764:
-------------------------------------------

Summary: Split the mac address code from IPv4 code.
                 Key: CLOUDSTACK-8764
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-8764
             Project: CloudStack
          Issue Type: Sub-task
Security Level: Public (Anyone can view this level - this is the default.)
          Components: Network Controller, Network Devices
            Reporter: Boris Schrijver
            Assignee: Boris Schrijver

Currently mac addresses for nics are being generated from the mac_address column in the table
op_dc_ip_address_alloc.

This doesn't make any sense. When we are going to deploy IPv6 only networks in the near future
we won't even use the legacy op_dc_ip_address_alloc table.

Therefore it is essential the mac address is generated together with the nic and not with
the ipv4 address.
