Do you think it is something that could be implemented via Annotations?

Perhaps a class level or method annotation

@Prefetch("products.orders");
public class Category() {

    @Prefetch // this could pre-fetch products
    @Prefetch("orders") // this could pre-fetch products.orders
    public List<Product> getProducts() {
        ....
    }
}
