This requires Cayenne 3.0 and EJBQLQuery with subquery. Something like  
this might work:

  new EJBQLQuery(
     "SELECT a FROM Artist a " +
     "WHERE NOT EXISTS " +
     "(SELECT p FROM Painting p WHERE p.color <> 'XYZ')";
