Typically you provide a list of IPs in a config or property file (so that you won't need to
recompile your application if those IPs change). If any one node is down, the other IPs should
allow the client to connect and discover the rest of the cluster.

Depending on the level of automation at your company, you may find that this is easier accomplished
with DNS tricks, config-management queries (chef search or similar), or flat text files.
