One minor thing that probably particular to my case: = when I removed the old package, it unlinked my symlink = /var/lib/cassandra/data (rather than edit the cassandra config, I = symlinked my amazon disk to where cassandra expected it).  At first = I thought I had lost all of my data, but after restoring the link, = everything was happy.
