Normally we have a pretty laissez-faire attitude about smaller changes, but storage engine changes or things that expose interfaces we're going to be committed to long-term we want a little more formal conversation around. This seems pretty non-controversial to me with significant prior art, but I'd recommend you draft up a quick CEP (cassandra enhancement proposal) for it and ping this thread to get interested parties to collab / review.
