Subject [jira] [Created] (CASSANDRA-13856) Optimize ByteBuf reallocations in the native protocol pipeline
Date Fri, 08 Sep 2017 00:08:00 GMT
Jason Brown created CASSANDRA-13856:
---------------------------------------

Summary: Optimize ByteBuf reallocations in the native protocol pipeline
                 Key: CASSANDRA-13856
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-13856
             Project: Cassandra
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Jason Brown
            Assignee: Jason Brown
            Priority: Minor

This is a follow up to CASSANDRA-13789. I discovered we reallocate the {{ByteBuf}} when writing
data to it, and it would be nice to size the buffer correctly up-front to avoid reallocating
it. I'm not sure how easy that is, nor if the cost of the realloc is cheaper than calculating
the size needed for the buffer. Adding this ticket, nonetheless, to explore that optimization.
