I'm still skeptical that sync MV updates are useful.  I get that people would like to have them, but it's a CAP problem.  You only get sync updates if you are willing to throw out availability very very quickly.

So: we can keep sync as an option for the future, but for 3.0 we should not scope creep this.  We have designed it as async which is the right thing for 90% of use cases and that is what we should ship.
