Subject [jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-6477) Materialized Views (was: Global Indexes)
Date Thu, 02 Jul 2015 20:32:08 GMT

Joshua McKenzie commented on CASSANDRA-6477:

I think the problem comes in when you have a complex data model with transparent views of
a root data source; I could easily see someone dropping a column without realizing there was
a specific MV w/that data in it that really needed it.

A decent alternative may be introducing the CASCADES keyword to indicate that you're ok with
it taking out the MV columns, similar to postgres and others.

> Local indexes are suitable for low-cardinality data, where spreading the index across
the cluster is a Good Thing. However, for high-cardinality data, local indexes require querying
most nodes in the cluster even if only a handful of rows is returned.
