a sizeof method that would return the size of a value instead of the value itself (not talking
of doing any aggregation here). Not convinced it would be "extremely" useful but it's not
particularly crazy either.

Unfortunately there are times when no one knows what was written into the column in the first
place, so it would help to have this data in there also. Also sometime organisationally the
people looking after Cassandra are not the same people writing to it so it can be a challenge
to work this out.
