Subject [jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-4120) Gossip identifies hosts by UUID
Date Tue, 01 May 2012 19:20:49 GMT

Eric Evans commented on CASSANDRA-4120:
---------------------------------------

bq. I hate to bikeshed here, but I have a small problem with the use of 'forced removal' in
NEWS...

https://github.com/acunu/cassandra/commit/73adf0

bq. ...which does address the hints-for-old-node problem, by dropping the hints. We should
probably note this in NEWS as well.

https://github.com/acunu/cassandra/commit/cf6bd2

And the net result, NEWS.txt: https://github.com/acunu/cassandra/blob/p/4120/04_remove_node_by_hostid/NEWS.txt

I also realized it wasn't going to be enough to display the host ID in the output of {{nodetool
info}}, since you might also need it for a down host. So, https://github.com/acunu/cassandra/commit/2677e9
adds a new nodetool command, {{id \[host\]}} for that.

> Since there is no longer a one-to-one mapping of host to token, a UUID should be used
to identify a host. This impacts:
> * Gossip
> * Hinted Hand-off
> * some JMX operations (eg. assassinateEndpointUnsafe)
> _Edit: Identify host by UUID, not IP_
> _Edit: Added table of patch links._
