I started using ElasticSearch to get massively scalable storage of nested JSON documents.
 They accept smile (https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson-dataformat-smile) as well, which
I've found to be very nice.  It's a binary version of JSON, so it's much faster to encode/decode
and more space efficient.
