It amounts to the same thing, in CQL3 syntax: you want to define a custom type for column
values.  All of these fit into that category.  (http://www.datastax.com/dev/blog/schema-in-cassandra-1-1)

This is extremely low priority for me, fwiw.  I'm not aware of anyone actually using custom
