better to use VALUES syntax instead of SELECT without table name. Its used in DB2 and Apache
Derby.

VALUES api_version();

postgresql requires () in VALUES: 


postgres=> values (1,2);
 column1 | column2
---------+---------
       1 |       2
(1 row)

server_version should be just version()
