Brandon Williams commented on CASSANDRA-1459:
---------------------------------------------

ISTM that a simple approach here would be to define a maximum amount of time to hint for,
since tracking a node's downtime is easy and then you don't have to go poke a JMX on 100 nodes
to disable HH for a dead host.

> Allow modification of HintedHandoff configuration to be changed on the fly per node.

> If there is an extended downtime of a node, allow Hinted Handoff to be disabled specifically
for that node rather than having to decommission it.
> <benblack> If a node will be down for an extended period, it would be useful to
be able to disable HH for it until it returns, without having to reconfigure and restart nodes.
