Subject [jira] Commented: (CASSANDRA-1491) Allow queries to the snitch via JMX
Date Thu, 23 Sep 2010 15:12:34 GMT

Nirmal Ranganathan commented on CASSANDRA-1491:

So looking at it only getScores() is specific, the other two values are common. Having it
under one interface, with unsupported operations, would make it cleaner for monitoring. Otherwise
it becomes a 2 step process to check which snitch is enabled and get the specific one. Right
now there's only 2 dynamic or non-dynamic. The contrary is agreeable too.

> The Ripcord team wishes upon a star that there was a way to make queries to a cluster's
Snitch using JMX or the cassandra API. As in, exposing the getRack() and getDatacenter()
calls. This would allow our monitoring and control software to have a similar idea about
"where" nodes are as the cluster itself, and improve visualization.
