Subject [jira] Commented: (CASSANDRA-587) consolidate json libraries
Date Mon, 28 Dec 2009 19:41:31 GMT

Eric Evans commented on CASSANDRA-587:
--------------------------------------

The dependencies for json-lib (http://json-lib.sourceforge.net) are:

    * jakarta commons-lang 2.4
    * jakarta commons-beanutils 1.7.0
    * jakarta commons-collections 3.2
    * jakarta commons-logging 1.1.1
    * ezmorph 1.0.6

Of which we are only currently shipping two. These additional dependencies are fine for the
case where it is installed on a distribution in package form, (since the dependencies are
packaged too), but I'm not in love with the idea of bundling another 3 third-party jars.

This doesn't preclude consolidating the two existing JSON libraries of course.

> CASSANDRA-499 introduced a new dependency json-simple. Originally this was done to take
advantage of its SAX-like parser but that ended up a bust (because the SSTableWriter constructor
needs the number of rows anyway).
> It might be worth taking this opportunity to look at http://json-lib.sourceforge.net
since it seems to be packaged for several major linux distributions and would make stripping
dependencies for cassandra packaging easier later on.
