I'm +1 on making things easier for new users but I think the drawbacks might outweigh the
benefits here: using relative paths means that if I run `bin/cassandra` from trunk/, i will
have trunk/storage, but if I run `./cassandra` from trunk/bin, i will have trunk/bin/storage.
 That's worse than having to mkdir /var/cassandra IMO.
