Camel does not really enforce the mep so you should not have much problem.
Such problems come when bridging from/to JBI.  if you want to create a camel
exchange and then go through JBI, then the MEP is important.
On the camel endpoint that create the message, you should be able to add
some parameters in the uri
:
    timer://myTimer?fixedRate=true&amp;period=5000&amp;exchangePattern=InOut
