As for having both a Producer and Consumer implementation, I believe that is correct because I do want my Camel routes to also be able to send NOTIFY messages via the PostgreSQL event bus and not just receive the async notifications. If you look at the integration test I have been using to do testing in src/test/java/org/apache/camel/pgevent/IntegrationTest.java you will see that I am using both "from" and "to" the pgevent component... As for the route suggestion, I will take a look into it..
