    I'd do `checkNotNull(sensorName, "sensorName)`, rather than risk it throwing an NPE in apply (at which point the stacktrace will tell us nothing about where the null was passed in).
    
    (If it were ever possible to have a null sensor name, then I'd let us pass in null to this method).
