Subject "Activity" Tab GUI Improvement for Sub-tasks
Date Thu, 30 Apr 2015 15:15:22 GMT
As a user clicks deeper into the task tree, it becomes more difficult to
keep track of the hierarchy given the current presentation.

Here is an example of the GUI when viewing a task that is 4-deep:

subtask of NginxController:pgNB start
subtask of tomcat-cluster start (parallel)
subtask of tomcat-cluster start

The presentation could be improved in three ways:

1) List the tasks from the parent downward, rather than from the child
upward. I believe that this order is more intuitive when considering the
hierarchy of tasks.

2) Increasingly indent each sub-task. This makes it easier to visualize
the parent-child relationship.

3) Provide links to all parent tasks. This allows for easy backtracking to
any parent task without requiring one or more browser back navigations.

Here is a revised view of the same 4-deep hierarchy:

*tomcat-cluster start*
   -> *tomcat-cluster start (parallel)*
      -> *NginxController:pgNB start*
         -> *NginxController:pgNB: post-start*

This view affords increased clarity and navigability.
