Subject [jira] [Created] (BROOKLYN-68) Chef MySQL example: does not open port in security group, or listen on 0.0.0.0
Date Thu, 18 Sep 2014 10:26:34 GMT
Aled Sage created BROOKLYN-68:
---------------------------------

Summary: Chef MySQL example: does not open port in security group, or listen
on 0.0.0.0
                 Key: BROOKLYN-68
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BROOKLYN-68
             Project: Brooklyn
          Issue Type: Bug
    Affects Versions: 0.7.0-M1
            Reporter: Aled Sage

An example blueprint using Chef is at `docs/use/guide/defining-applications/chef-blueprints.md`.

When deploying MySQL to AWS (copy-pasting the yaml), I hit two problems:
* For the automatically created VM, it did not open port 3306 in the security group. Therefore
the service was not accessible.
* The mysqld process was only listening on 127.0.0.1:3306, rather than 0.0.0.0:3306. The output
of `netstat -antp | grep 3306` was:
    tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5545/mysqld

The first of these issues, and other future work, are described in the google doc (which is
linked to at the end of the docs page):
    https://docs.google.com/a/cloudsoftcorp.com/document/d/18ZwzmncbJgJeQjnSvMapTWg6N526cvGMz5jaqdkxMf8/edit

The latter is presumably an issue with the blueprint at https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/mysql/archive/v4.0.12.tar.gz
