FYI- Tomcat NT Service (Win XP PRO) w/ 1.4.1_01 doesn't work as well.
1.4.1_02 does though.  I'm not sure of the patch level of my OS...sorry.

jdk1.3.02 is patched for win2k so it should be ok.

We've just seen similar problems, which were traced to problems jdk1.3.0

  had with a Radeon video card. You might want to update your video 
driver and/or move up to 1.4.1?
