Shmuel,

you probably also need to place your xerces2 jars under 
jboss/server/<option>/lib directory as these are the ones loaded by the web 
apps themselves.

Note that if you are using the 'all' option of jboss server, that there is 
an axis.jar under there already, which gets used for jboss.net - the jboss 
webservice platform.
