David,

am ok with #1 (BaseDeserializerFactory allows it to create array deserializers) but i hesitate
to check in the other 2 until we have sample test cases showing the problem (and that the
fix works) in stand-alone axis. can u guys help with that? code that gets touched in #2 and
#3 is VERY hairy and if we don't check in a test case, there is no guarantee that a subsequent
check-in will revert the behavior.
