Subject [jira] Created: (AXIS-1681) version Axis jar filenames
Date Wed, 24 Nov 2004 01:47:18 GMT
version Axis jar filenames
--------------------------

         Key: AXIS-1681
         URL: http://nagoya.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS-1681
     Project: Axis
        Type: Improvement
  Components: Basic Architecture
    Versions: 1.2
 Environment: n/a
    Reporter: Ian P. Springer
    Priority: Minor

It looks like many (most?) Apache Java projects are now versioning jar filenames (i.e. blah-2.1.jar
vs. blah.jar). Axis is still using unversioned jar filenames. Is there a reason for not switching
to versioned filenames? IMO, jars w/ versioned filenames are much less error-prone for the
projects utilizing those jars. As a side benefit, versioning jar filenames also eliminates
the need to rename the jars before publishing them to a Maven-style jar repository.
