I can second this observation/request.  FWIW, I have a similar issue with my Axis services.
 Both the large memory use and memory leaks make large messages very difficult to manage :(

Yes, we've run it with JProfiler.

The thing you're missing is that we're talking about server side memory 
leaks -- not total memory use during serialization, which is admittedly 
really really high. But if you notice, all the memory used during 
serialization isn't released, which means that over time, the heap is 
exhausted, and you get OOM Errors during serialization, since there's a 
big memory usage spike at that time.
