Indeed I think the semantics of axis-the-word are quite descriptive/useful; in particular, I like " a main line of direction, motion, growth, or extension " from Merriam Webster's. I'm in favor of sticking with "Axis" in the documentation but fully expect that people will use both forms as suits their tastes. It has always bothered me that "GLUE" is correct even though it's not an acronym and "Axis" is correct even though it is an acronym.
