Cool, thanks for getting back to me.

I had tried using setTransportProperty but for some reason the
authorization info got quoted like this:

Authorization: "Basic dXNlcjM6cGFzczM="

I haven't investigated much, but I was getting login errors as a
result. There may be another issue.
