Subject RE: Axis C++, WSDL & arrays
Date Wed, 14 Jul 2004 12:08:25 GMT
John H:

It's been a couple of months since I looked at this, so my recollection may
be wrong, but I recall that AXIS C++ is using modified versions of the AXIS
Java classes; failure to put the AXIS C++ jar ahead of the AXIS Java jar
yields wrong (=AXIS Java) behavior.

There's a way to fix this that falls under the "improving the tooling"
category: refactor the classes involved so that the different behavior
required by AXIS C++ is in subclasses of the original classes, or entirely
different classes.

The advantage of doing this will be that others seeking to generate code
from WSDL files will be able to add their favorite languages. Imagine, you
could have "AXIS/390" (for IBM S/390 assembler language). :)

This problem is a regular occurrence. Not sure how we can stop it happening
again -
a) improving the documentation
b) improving the tooling
c) doing some kind of runtime check against e.g. classloader (not sure how
mind you!)
d) providing a batch script

e) other?

thoughts folks?
