We do have support for types in the IDL, added as part of AVRO-1684. It adds [date, time_ms,
and timestamp_ms|https://github.com/apache/avro/pull/86/files#diff-136e900cc327974ae416a44248e47d0aR1488].
I think there was a similar change when decimal was added. Is this was you had in mind?
