Niclas:

I'm buried deep in model listeners and notifiers and I'm unlikely to 
even thing about the thread stuff any time soon so if you want to jump 
in do something on this - go for it.  I've already tagged CVS against 
the 3.2.3 release so applying any changes to HEAD is not problem.
