Subject [MERLIN] running Merlin inside Maven
Date Thu, 08 May 2003 05:24:11 GMT

I've just made a couple of updates to the Merlin plug-in to extent
capabilities to include simulated deployment of components based on the
Maven target/classes content and, secondly, validation of deployment of
a jar file containing components. Unfortunately these features are
totally undocumented at this time, however, if you have Merlin installed
(and recently updated), you can do any of the following from within Maven:

  merlin:meta

generates xinfo and xservice descriptors based on
     javadoc tags automatically

  merlin:simulate

locates components in the target/classes directory and
follows deployment directives defined under a
     conf/block.xml file.

  merlin:deploy

takes a jar file generated by maven and executes it as
a proper block (i.e. a DU exposing a bunch of services)
based on packaged compoent descriptors and a block.xml
     deployment directive

Both the simulate and deploy tags recognize Merlin and Phoenix
descriptors - so not problem dealing with content in projects like
cornerstone. Documentation and the usual examples should be available
with a week or so. This will include all three areas, meta generation,
pre-jar validation, and post jar deployment checks.

Cheers, Steve.
