Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: PNIX-54
    Summary: Setting application version, display name and description
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Unassigned
   Priority: Minor

 Time Spent: Unknown
   Estimate: 3 days

    Project: phoenix
 Components:
             System Manager (JMX)
   Versions:
             4.1

   Assignee:
   Reporter:

    Created: Thu, 15 May 2003 1:43 PM
    Updated: Thu, 15 May 2003 1:43 PM

Description:
Already today the application is exposed via JMX e.g. to the JMX console . There are fields
for the name (coming from the sar-filename), the display name, description and version. But
all fields are the same as the name because they cannot be set from within the application
at development time such as is possible for component with .mxinfo files.

It would be nice to be able to set these fields so that they could e.g. be displayed in JMX
or be displayed when starting the application.
Possible locations for setting the fields would be assembly.xml, config.xml or a additional
new meta-info file.

Possible example of configuration e.g. in assembly.xml:

<assembly name="My test application">
  <description>My test application does this and that</description>
  <version>1.0</version>

  ...
</assembly>
