We’re only testing AsterixDB on Java 8, so running on Java 9 is uncharted territory. 

Here it seems that a class is missing from the class path. This class is probably available
 in JRE 9, but maybe not on the default class path. Somebody with more Java 9 exposure than
I had would probably know ...
