Subject [jira] [Commented] (ARROW-360) C++: Add method to shrink PoolBuffer using realloc

Uwe L. Korn commented on ARROW-360:
-----------------------------------

The dummy implementation won't be worse for the current case. I intend to built a custom allocator
based on {{jemalloc}} which should be able to do alligned {{realloc(x)}} calls (see http://jemalloc.net/jemalloc.3.html).
As I'm not sure about the implications of linking {{jemalloc}}, I would provide a leaf library
{{libarrow_jemalloc}}

> In the case where we have optimistically allocated a large PoolBuffer, we could shrink
it later again using a call to {{realloc}}. This should free the exceeding memory but avoids
an actual {{memcpy}}.
