It may be worth a try... mysql-server 5.0.45-1ubuntu2 is in gutsy (aka what will become Ubuntu 7.10 in October). If you don't want to blow away an already existing install, you can use a live CD and install the necessary bits there. We released a new alpha just last night, available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/tribe-5/ (you want the desktop CD if you don't want to do a real installation). -- Tollef Fog Heen UNIX is user friendly, it's just picky about who its friends are
