Subject High CPU Usage when tomcat is used with Apr
Date Thu, 21 Sep 2006 05:49:35 GMT

I am currently having a strange problem when tomcat is used with apr.
The setup is tomcat 5.5.12, apr 1.2.7 on Solaris 10 on x86.

The problem is a high cpu usage as soon as some ajp13 connections are
made, the java process use nearly 50% of the cpu time (on a bi-pro machine).

Having a look at the threads, this cpu is used by only one of the thread
whose seems to be always polling, its stack trace being always:

----------------- lwp# 20 / thread# 20 --------------------
  fef3fff7 portfs (6, 1c, 83c97c8, 300, 1, d4ca4bb4)
  d51f83d6 apr_pollset_poll (853ffd8, 1388, 0, d4ca4c04, d4ca4c10) + 1fe
  d522ccec Java_org_apache_tomcat_jni_Poll_poll (848041c, d4ca4c44,
83e2720, 0, 1388, 0) + 64

This situation doesn't happen when apr usage is disabled in tomcat.

Is this cpu utilization behaviour expected ?

Feel free to ask me more details.
