I don't know what's the proper way to do that. I was just looking at how other 
projects have done this.

So your suggested:

#ifndef __attribute__
#define __attribute__(__x)
#endif

is fine by me.

oops, kill the last #endif

it was a part of the wrapper
#ifndef HASATTRIBUTE
...
#endif
