Sounds good, here's another suggestion:

apr-build/
  autoconf/
    *.m4 and related
  bin/
    *.sh, binaries, and related
  build/
    *.in
...and so on

That would be my preference, but there may be issues with the GPL that
we need to figure out (you know best wherefrom this was derived).
