+1.  I'm kind of shocked we aren't doing that now.  

However, I wonder if the cost of repetitive mmap() and munmap()
might be too prohibitive (how expensive is mmap and munmap?).  
But, we'll do this in APR_MMAP_LIMIT chunks (which I think is 
4MB).  So, it might balance out.  -- justin
